In 1968, Hugues-Bernard Comte de la Gatinai was born in France and was an ex-officer in the French navy. He married Gigi Guarrasi- a descendant of a great family in Palermo. With her, he engaged in a passionate and courageous adventure: the reconstruction, along modern lines, of the Tenuta Rapitalà cellar that was destroyed by an earthquake in the Belice Valley that same year. The estate now covers 225 hectares that descends from Camporeale towards Alcamo across gentle slopes at an altitude of 300 to 600 meters where the earth is mixed with sand and clay.
Catarratto is a native white varietal, typical of Sicily. It’s available in two forms: the Comune, and the much higher quality, Lucido. It offers a fresh wine that is savoury and elegant with Mediterranean scents, acidity and structure.
Conclusion: A great discovery, crisp and aromatic; perfect by itself or with some light dishes.
