"Chinese Five Spice is in many Asian recipes and the sweet tangy profile goes well with pork and duck. Although the exact origins of five-spice powder are lost to history, there is some thought that the Chinese were attempting to produce a ""wonder powder"" encompassing all of the five elements. All of the five flavours - sour, bitter, sweet, pungent, and salty - are found in five-spice powder.
What's in it?
Cinnamon 33%, Star Anise 20%, Clove 20%, Fennel 14%, Rice Flour, Pepper 4%.
Add to chicken, pork or vegtetable stir-fries. Sprinkle this spice blend over pork fillets and barbecue or grill. Add to vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin or zucchini. Stir into French dressing for an Asian flavoured salad. Add to vegetable stir-frys. Ideal as a dry marinade for chicken, duck, pork or seafood.
