These "Italy towels" are called 때밀이 in Korean. They are widely used at public bath houses in Korea. The idea is to shower, soak, and then scrub your body with the fabric in order to remove dead skin. You don't need oil, soap, or anything like that. Just water.
If you have a nice Korean bath house in your area, you can also pay a middle-aged woman to scrub your naked body head to toe and they will get SO much dead skin off! I think they tend to over scrub AND they will really get in all the nooks and crannies, so if you're worried about over-exfoliation or if you're shy I would not recommend it. It feels GREAT though!
I would definitely recommend soaking or at least taking a longer shower before you start scrubbing for maximum skin shed.I always get the most visible results from scrubbing my underarm and inner thighs.
Exfoliation also exercises the skin. It stimulates. if you don't exfoliate you're just moisturising dead skin cells."
