In 1906, the Helderberg Winery was established and in that year harvested the first grapes in their new winery on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain (Bright Mount in Afrikaans). Over the following decades, the winery grew in stature, based on its pedigree of consistently producing excellent wines, with notably superb Cabernet sauvignon. The winery was instrumental in establishing the area’s reputation and high regard, and today the Helderberg sub-region of the Stellenbosch is widely acknowledged as South Africa’s home of fine red wines, with its specific location close to the sea and granitic soil, adding strong characteristics to the wines. After harvest, 30% of the wine is matured in French oak, and blended before bottling. It displays ripe aromas of blackcurrant, dark plum, red berries and capsicum. The dense layer of pure and complex fruit, with subtle cedar undertones is held together by a firm acidity. On the palate, it shows a great balance of ripe fruit characters with an elegant, structured and silky finish.
