The name "Ginger" is said to be derived from the Gingi district of India, where tea made from ginger is used for stomach upset. Ginger was one of the first products to travel the spice route from Asia to Europe, where the Greeks and Romans made extensive use of it. Roman in particular appreciated ginger for its sensual mood enhancing powers, adding it to wine.
Ginger essential oil is often used for digestive problems such as nausea, morning sickness, travel upset, diarrhea, colic, cramps. In respiratory system, it treats colds and flu, catarrh, congestion, coughs, sinusitis, sore throat, chills and fever. Ginger oil is also effective for muscle aches and pains, clear bruises, poor circulation and arthritic pains. Its warming qualities is useful for the treatment of seasonal affective disorder, as a general restorative for emotional depletion and revitalizing energy and counteracting exhaustion.
