The Languedoc is a large winemaking region with thousands of years of history; the diversity of soils and great weather conditions allow to plant a wide range of varietals, and to create a fairly ‘un-conventional’ blend, like this one, a fun blend of local (Syrah) and ‘Bordeaux’ (Merlot, Cabernets) varietals.
In 1997, Domaine Antugnac was purchased by Christian Collovray and Jean-Luc Terrier; childhood friends who grew to become business partners of Domaine Des Deux Roches in the Burgundy region. Looking to expand in a different region, they focused on Languedoc, and Domaine Antugnac quickly became the clear choice. The Estate is roughly fifty miles west of Carcassonne in a lovely, isolated mountain valley hidden in the Pyrenean foothills, anchored by the old village of Antugnac (its church was built as a kind of bastide, or fortified building, to protect the villagers from marauding bands in the middle ages).
This beautiful, clear ruby colored wine has a well-rounded body and an ample nose of red fruits that taste of strawberries and blackcurrants with a hint of black pepper on the palate.
Conclusion: A nice, fruity and friendly red; great with a wide range of meat dishes or a nice cheese board.
