As an adjunctive therapy in osteoarthritis
Glucosamine is a simple molecule manufactured by the body. It stimulates the manufacture of glycosaminoglycans, which are key structural components of cartilage.
The inability to manufacture sufficient levels of glucosamine is believed to be the major factor leading to osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis. The weight-bearing joints like the knees, hips and joints of the hands are most often affected by the degenerative changes associated with osteoarthritis. As the disease progresses, the cartilage loses its ability to act as shock absorber, which causes pain upon motion of the affected joints. This will eventually lead to deformity and limitation of motion in the joints.
